I can't believe I am just now posting this, life has been so crazy lately but I totaled our 2006 Toyota Corolla on September 10th, 2009. She was a wonderful car. She never gave us any problems and we had barely had her for 2 years.
I was driving down the road close to our house dropping Sydney off at the baby sitter's before heading to work when I reached down to grab my sunglasses because the sun was in my eyes. Those few seconds and the fact that I was unaware of the sharp curve in that road made it so that I drove my car off the road and down a slope into an eight-foot deep ditch. There was about 1 1/2-2 feet of water in the ditch which got into my car's engine and killed it after about a minute. Sydney and I were just fine. I had a nasty seat belt rash and Sydney was a bit shaken but fine. Within 5 minutes, someone from the ward had seen my car in the ditch and called the Relief Society President. Brian was contacted and someone came and took care of Sydney while I dealt with the police officer and tow truck.
I feel quite fortunate considering the situation and am really grateful for the love and support from our family, friends and ward. Some friends of ours are letting us borrow their car and our insurance settlement more than covered the remaining balance on our loan. We will hopefully be getting a new car in the next week. It was really hard to start looking for cars because 1) car shopping is such a pain, all the test-driving, pushy salesmen, and just not having a favorite car picked out and 2) I kept thinking "I miss my Corolla!". I really felt a pang of loss (please don't think me materialistic) but I really liked our car! It was so good to us and it was so new when we got it! Only 16k miles and 1 year old. I felt so privileged!
Anyways, I know Sydney and I were being looked after and I do not take our safety for granted. All my love, Meagan.

I'm sorry you wrecked your car. I know what you mean about missing your car. Personally I hate big changes like that.
I'm glad you are both all right! It is so scary how fast life can change! And I know what you mean about getting attached to cars. I am so attached to my 1995 Tercel, which I've had since High School! Materialistic or not, I will miss it when it dies.
holy cow MEG!! I'm soo glad to hear that you only got a tiny seat belt rash..and also glad to hear that Sydney wasn't hurt!!
I always have a fear of getting in another accident with my daughter, and it doesn't help now that i'm expecting #2... I think it's because I was already in an accident prior to coming to Idaho for school!! Remember when I had that cast??!?!?!!
I'm glad to hear that you two weren't hurt too bad!! LOVE YA!! Ash!! :)
Whoa! That's scary! I'm glad you both are okay though. Good luck with the car shopping. I remember when you got that cute little Corolla. You'll have to show me what you end up getting this time!
Thought the August Blog Train looked nice, if you haven't seen it: http://www.blogtrainblog.blogspot.com/
